"Finger pressure" is the meaning of the Japanese term "Shiatsu", a therapeutic method which aims at the recovery and maintenance of health by means of a re-balancing of the body's energetic network.

This network manages our growth, vital functions, activity and consciousness all along our lives. According to Eastern tradition, al our troubles (both physical and emotional, mental or spiritual) are related to imbalances in our energetic system. Using defined circuits, the meridians, Shiatsu enables the balancing of the energetic flow, as this flows into the organs, glands, muscles, nerves and blood, promoting the regeneration of the body and its well-being.

The Portuguese School of Shiatsu is affiliated to the Kiental International School of Shiatsu in Kiental, Switzerland. Unified by a common philosophy, based on the principles of natural cure, they are both dedicated to the promotion of a healthy lifestyle and the fulfilment of the human being's creative potential. The different levels of the programme can be attended at in either school.

The Course's programme aims to guide all students towards their own personal objectives, be it becoming a Shiatsu therapist (an art with excellent future prospects) or simply using Shiatsu for personal development.

The Course provides the necessary tools for the development of qualified practitioners of alternative therapies. It relies on innovative teaching methods, including Chi Kung, Yoga, Do-In, Tai Chi, Feng-Shui and Food, all of which enable the student to develop the energy quality necessary to obtain excellent results.

The subject matters of Anatomy and Physiology are also part of the syllabus. The course counts on the technical guidance of João Filippi and on the tutoring of the best qualified Portuguese and international teachers.

  Alex Ficher received his Shiatsu graduation from internationally renowned teachers like Saul Goodman and Wilfried Rappenecker. He was head of examinations committee of the Swiss Shiatsu Federation. At present he is a teacher at the International School of Shiatsu, in Kiental, Zagreb and Lisbon (IMP).

  Alexandre Gama has a degree in Animal Production Engineering and has completed the Feng Shui Course in the IMP. He is a Feng Shui consultant, develops projects, writes for magazines and served as an interior designer on the television show " Querido mudei a casa" - ("Honey I changed the house"). He is the author of "Feng Shui @ Lares e Costumes Portugueses " - ("Feng Shui @ Portuguese Homes and Customs").

  Bill Tara is a true-born speaker and a strong defender of the natural approach to health. He was vice-president of the largest distributor of organic products in the USA and director of East West Centre, one of the largest active alternative health centres in Europe.

  Eugenia Varatojo is one of the leading macrobiotic teachers in Portugal, the author of several cookbooks and a regular teacher in Spain. Together with her husband, she founded the Kushi Institute of Portugal and she is currently responsible for the cooking courses at the IMP.

  Francisco Varatojo, Director of IMP, is one of the best qualified macrobiotic consultants. Over the years he has given numerous lectures and speeches in various public institutions. He is a guest teacher at the Calouste Gulbenkian Higher Nurses' Institute. He is a regular teacher and conference lecturer in Europe and in the USA. He is a regular columnist of SOL weekly newspaper.

  João Filippi is one of the most respected practitioners of Shiatsu in Portugal. He is the coordinator of the Shiatsu School of Portugal, professor at the Shiatsu School in Valencia and assistant professor at the International School of Shiatsu in Switzerland. In his work, he integrates Biodynamic Massage and Psycho-Body Integral Therapy.
